Romans

Legio X Gemina was a legion of the Roman Army which was active from 58 BC to the 5th century AD. It was one of the four legions used by Julius Caesar during his Gallic Wars, and it remained loyal to Caesar during the civil war. It was disbanded in 45 BC, and its veterans were granted lands in Gallia Narbonensis and Hispania. It was reconstituted in 42 BC and served under Mark Antony, and, after Antony's defeat at the Battle of Actium, the veterans were settled in Patras. In 30 BC, the legion was redeployed to Cantabria to serve in Augustus' war against the Cantabri, and their veterans were among the first settlers of Zaragoza and Merida. The legion briefly served in Pannonia in 63 AD before returning to Hispania, where it stayed until 70 AD, when it was sent to Germania Inferior. The legion was stationed at Nijmegen in present-day Holland from 71 to 103 AD, and it later served in Dacia from 101 to 102 AD, and, from 103 until the 5th century AD, Legio X Gemina was stationed at Vindobona (Vienna, Austria).
