Legio VI Victrix was a Roman Army legion that was founded in 41 BC by Octavian. It fought against Sextus Pompeius in Sicily and against Mark Antony at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC, and, during the Roman Empire, it took part in the campaigns against the Cantabri from 29 to 19 BC. It stayed in Hispania for nearly a century before being stationed along the Rhine from 110 to 119 AD and then in Britannia after 119 AD. It replaced the diminished Legio IX Hispana at Eboracum (York), and it started work on Hadrian's Wall in 122 AD. In 175 AD, Marcus Aurelius resettled 5,500 of the defeated Iazgyes in Britain, and many of them were incorporated into Legio VI Victrix. During the late 4th century AD, it was commanded by Sextus Balventius Perennis and was stationed at Eboracum.
