Legio III Alpina was a legion of the Roman Army which was raised by Mark Antony in 58 BC in Mediolanium by Mark Antony. After Julius Caesar adopted Antony, Antony was ordered to raise a legion of Roman soldiers with the objective of marching north and reinforcing Caesar during his Gallic Wars. Legio III Alpina maintained public order in Roman Gaul as Caesar campaigned against the Germans, and Antony later led the legion against the hostile peoples of central Gaul, seizing Vesontio from the Suebi and then conquering the lands of the Carnutes, bringing him within striking distance of Lutetia (now Paris) by the spring of 57 BC.
