The Lebanese Front was a coalition of Christian parties in Lebanon formed in 1976 during the Lebanese Civil War. It was the first attempt to unite the Maronites in their struggle against Syria, PLO, and the leftists in the country, and it was formed to counteract the leftists' formation of the Lebanese National Movement under Kamal Jumblatt. The Lebanese Front had 25,000 troops during the war, and it allied with Israel to give them support during the war against the Syrian Arab Army and rival militias. The front's most famous leader was Dany Chamoun, the son of former President Camille Chamoun, but his assassination along with many other Maronite leaders led to the Lebanese Front collapsing in 1986. Afterwards, the Lebanese Forces was formed to succeed the Lebanese Front as the alliance of all Maronite militias in the country.
