Lebanese Army

The Lebanese Army is the military of Lebanon, founded on 1 August 1945 after independence from France. Lebanon's military has seen action in many wars, starting with the 1948 Arab-Israeli war and continuing with its intervention in the Syrian Civil War spillover within Lebanon. According to the National Pact, the Chief of the General Staff must always be a Maronite and the Chief of the Army Staff must be a Druze, and most of the generals have historically been Maronite Catholics and the soldiers mostly Muslim. Today, there are 100,000 active personnel in the army, and 2.8% of the GDP goes to the army.
