Leander the Hellanodikai

Leander the Hellanodikai was a 5th-century BC Elean Greek Olympic judge. He oversaw the Pankration boxing/wrestling event during the 428 BC Olympics, welcoming the audience members to the stadium, introducing the guest announcer Kallias and the pankratiasts themselves, commenting on form, and watching over the training athletes outside of the contest. As the event's presiding judge, it was Leander who crowned Kassandra with the champion's laurel before the Olympic Tree after she defeated the reigning champion Dorieus.
