The League of Communists of Slovenia (ZKS) was the Slovenian branch of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia from 1945 to 1989. The party was originally founded in 1937 as the Communist Party of Slovenia, the first autonomous sub-national branch of the Yugoslav Communist Party. In 1989, under the leadership of party chairman Milan Kucan, Slovenia declared its right to secede from Yugoslavia, and the party was dissolved in 1990, transforming into the Social Democrats of Slovenia.
