Le Destroit is a ruined Crusader fortress located near the town of Atlit, Israel, to the south of Haifa. It was founded in the early 12th century to ward off robbers who preyed on pilgrims and other travellers in the area; they even wounded King Baldwin I of Jerusalem there in 1103. In 1191, following the Siege of Acre, King Richard the Lionheart of England's army encampde at Le Destroit. In 1218, following the construction of nearby Chateau Pelerin, the Crusaders dismantled Le Destroit so that it could not fall into Muslim hands.
