
Lawrence Cowle Phipps (30 August 1862-1 March 1958) was a US Senator from Colorado (R) from 4 March 1919 to 3 March 1931, succeeding John F. Shafroth and preceding Edward P. Costigan.
Biography[]
Lawrence Cowle Phipps was born in Amity, Pennsylvania in 1862, and he grew up in Pittsburgh and joined the Carnegie Steel Company. He later advanced to vice president, and he retired in 1901 and moved to Denver, Colorado, where he was active in investments. In 1917, he became President of the Colorado Taxpayers Protective League, and he served in the US Senate from 1919 to 1931 as a member of the Republican Party. He died in Santa Monica, California in 1958.
