Laurette Fabray was a Louisiana Creole prostitute who lived in New Orleans during the mid-19th century. A quadroon (of quarter-Black ancestry), she became pregnant by Nicholas Fabray, who scandalously married her. She died while giving birth to Madeline Fabray LaMotte Main, and her Black heritage was concealed until Nicholas revealed it to Madeline on his deathbed years later.
