Latin Quarter 2022

The Latin Quarter is a major district of Paris, France, located in the south-west of the city, and on the left bank of the Seine. During the 18th century, the Latin Quarter consisted of the Sorbonne, Faubourg Saint-Germain, and Luxembourg sub-districts, and it was known for its student life, lively atmosphere, and bistros. The district received its name from the Latin language, which was widely spoken in and around the university during the Middle Ages after Peter Abelard and his students took up residence there.
