Later Yan in 400 CE
The Later Yan (384-409) was a Murong Xianbei state that existed in northestern China during the Sixteen Kingdoms era.
History[]
The future Emperor Wucheng of Later Yan was a general of Former Yan until the jealous regent Murong Ping evicted him from his lands; he proceeded to serve Fu Jian of Former Qin before betraying him and forming Later Yan in 384. However, he did not build a strong empire and he chose the wrong successor; after his death in 396, Emperor Daowu of Northern Wei defeated Later Yan many times. Later Yan fell into civil warfare as Emperor Zhaowen of Later Yan was ousted by his nephew Emperor Huiyi of Later Yan while absent from the capital; his own general Feng Ba assassinated him in 409 CE and formed Northern Yan, replacing the Later Yan.
