The Last Supper was the final meal that Jesus shared with the Twelve Apostles before his crucifixion. It took place shortly after Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem and his cleansing of the Temple, and, during the meal, he predicted that one of his apostles would betray him; he also predicted that, before the next morning, Saint Peter would deny knowing him. He instituted the Eucharist by breaking bread and giving it to the Apostles, saying "This is my body given to you." He also passed around a cup of wine, saying to drink of it, for he said that the wine represented his blood. He went on to wash his apostles' feet, and, while praying in the garden later that night, he was arrested by Roman soldiers.
