Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is a Salafi jihadist militant group founded in 1986 with the goal of creating an Islamic state in South Asia and liberating Kashmir from Indian rule. Headquartered at Muridke in Pakistan (not far from the major city of Lahore), LeT was founded by Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, Abdullah Azzam, and Zafar Iqbal with funding from Osama bin Laden, and the LeT attacked military and civilian targets in India. The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) intelligence agency of Pakistan assisted the LeT in its resistance war against India, and it was responsible for notable attacks such as the 2001 Indian Parliament attack and the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The size of LeT is unknown, but its charity wing Jama'at ud-Daw'ah has 50,000+ members.
