The force was founded on 1 July 1973 as the merger of the LVPD and the Clark County Sheriff's Department, and it serves the city limits of Las Vegas and the unincorporated areas of Clark County. It had over 2,600 officers, 2,000+ marked and unmarked cars, 160+ motorcycles, 7 helicopters, 1 plane, 3 boats, 42 dogs, and 12 horses.
