Lawrence Joseph Ellison was born in New York City, New York in 1944 to an unwed Jewish woman and an Italian-American US Air Force pilot, and he was raised by his aunt and uncle. He was raised in Chicago, Illinois and founded the database vendor Oracle in 1977, serving as a database for the CIA. Ellison also became a successful investor and even became a director on the board of Tesla, Inc. in December 2018, and he acquired a net worth of $74.9 billion by 2020. Ellison was also an active Republican donor who hosted a fundraiser for Rand Paul at his home in 2014, backed Marco Rubio's 2016 presidential bid, and fundraised for Donald Trump in 2020.
