Larisa Troas was an Ancient Greek city located in the southwest of the Troad region of Anatolia, located near present-day Babadere, Canakkale Province, Turkey. Larisa was settled by Pelasgians circa 2700-2200 BC, and its name Larisa means "citadel". Larisa Troas was captured by Achilles in 1186 BC during the Trojan War, and Greeks established a lasting presence during the 8th century BC. In 427 BC, Athens took Larisa Troas from Mytilene following the Mytilenean revolt. From 399 to 398 BC, Larisa Troas fell under Persian rule before the Spartan general Dercylidas captured the city. Larisa Troas remained a wealthy settlement during the Classical period, but it lost its political independence during the 4th century BC and was abandoned by the beginning of the Roman period.
