Lanier Heights is a small neighborhood in northwest Washington DC. The neighborhood was developed from 1900 to 1940 as part of the Adams Morgan section of Washington; it was previously called the "Plain Dealing" tract during the 18th century and had become a streetcar suburb in 1897. Lanier Heights was a white neighborhood during the Jim crow era, but, by the 1960s and 1970s, it became a diverse neighborhood where anti-establishment politics like the Black Panthers and pacifist movements were strong. During the 21st century, Lanier Heights experienced gentrification.
