Lamanites

The Lamanites were, according to Mormonism, a Native American people descended from Laman, the son of Lehi, who led his family and followers from Jerusalem to the "promised land" of the Americas in 589 BC. The Lamanites began as wicked rivals to the more righteous Nephites, the descendants of Lehi's younger son Nephi, who adhered to God's will (while Laman and his brother Lemuel rebelled against their father). In 33 AD, Jesus appeared in the Americas and merged the Lamanites and Nephites into one people, but, 84 years later, a small group of people who had revolted against the church started calling themselves the "Lamanites" again. The Lamanites went on to exterminate the Nephites, and the Lamanites were said to have become the primary ancestors of modern Native Americans.
