Lajos Faluvegi

Lajos Faluvegi (22 October 1924-5 December 1999) was Minister of Finance of Hungary from 12 May 1971 to 27 June 1980, succeeding Peter Valyi and preceding Istvan Hetenyi.

Biography[]

Lajos Faluvegi was born in Matraderecske, Hungary on 22 October 1924, and he attended the Corvinus University of Budapest (then named after Karl Marx). After 1945, he served in the Finance Ministry, serving as Deputy Finance Minister from 1968 to 1971 before serving as Finance Minister from 1971 to 1980. Faluvegi called attention to public debt, and he later served on the National Planning Board and served as Deputy Prime Minister. From 1989 to 1990, he served on the Council of Stock Exchange, and he died in 1999.
