Laertes

Laertes (died 1170 BC) was King of Cephalonia during the 13th century BC, an Argonaut, and the father of Odysseus.

Biography[]

Laertes was the son of Arcesius and Chalcomedusa and the grandson of Cephalus, and he ruled over Cephalonia and the Ionian Islands (including Ithaca). Laertes married Anticlea and fathered Odysseus, a Trojan War hero. During his lifetime, Laertes served aboard the Argo and taught Jason acrobatics, and he also participated in the Calydonian Boar hunt. He died three years after Odysseus' return to Ithaca.
