La Villette is a neighborhood in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, France. La Villette was once home to huge slaughterhouses and the national wholesale meat market; Napoleon III had the slaughterhouses built in 1867. In 1974, the slaughterhouses were cleared away and relocated as part of a redevelopment project, and, from 1984 to 1987, the Parc de la Villette was built atop the former meat quarter.
