La Mancha is a natural and historical region located on an arid but fertile plateau of central Spain; its name comes from the Arabic name "al-Mansha", meaning "the dry land". It is located to the south of Madrid, from the mountains of Toledo to the hills of Cuenca, to the south by the Sierra Morena, and to the north by the Alcarria region. Ciudad Real is the most important city in La Mancha.
