La Dama Negra

La Dama Negra was a man-of-war of the Spanish Navy that was active in the Caribbean from 1715 to 1722. The vessel was infamous for its thick armor and near-invincibility, but it was sunk by the pirate brig Jackdaw in 1722 by Edward Kenway.

Biography[]

La Dama Negra was constructed by King Felipe V of Spain in the dockyards of Havana, Cuba as the flagship of the Spanish Navy in the Caribbean Sea. Meaning "The Black Lady", La Dama Negra was used in the destruction of several pirate and Great Britain's Royal Navy ships. The ship was engaged in the southern Caribbean off Serranilla by pirate Edward Kenway and his brig Jackdaw in 1722 in an intense battle, during which Jackdaw suffered heavy lossess. La Dama Negra was targeted from the rear by Jackdaw, which avoided its broadsides and mortar fire. The ship was destroyed by Jackdaw, and its reign of terror ended.
