
Kurush (died 480 BC) was a Persian officer who was killed in battle by Leonidas I during the Battle of Thermopylae.
Biography[]
Kurush was an officer of the Persian army under Xerxes I, and he took part in the 480 BC invasion of Malis during the Greco-Persian Wars. He fought at the Battle of Thermopylae, killing several Spartan soldiers with his axe before he was challenged to single combat by Leonidas I after Leonidas knocked him off a cliff. In the ensuing battle, Leonidas managed to best Kurush, running him through the chest with his spear.
