Kurt von Tippelskirch (9 October 1891 – 10 May 1957) was a General der Infanterie of the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany who served in World War II.
Biography[]
Kurt von Tippelskirch was born on 9 October 1891 in Charlottenburg, Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia in the German Empire (present-day Germany). In 1910 he joined the Reichswehr and was a veteran of World War I, being captured by France in the First Battle of the Marne in 1914. From 1924 to 1933 he served in various staff positions and worked with intelligence data for Nazi Germany's Wehrmacht during Operation Barbarossa in 1941 during World War II. In 1942 he was made a Major-General and the commander of the German 30th Infantry Division, and from 1942 to 1943 he served with the Italian 8th Army. He commanded the German 4th Army temporarily in 1944 but later transferred to lead the German 14th Army; in April 1945 he took over the German 21st Army on the collapsing Eastern Front. Tippelskirch took over Army Group Vistula and was decorated for his efforts, but he surrendered to the US Army on 2 May 1945 near Lubeck.
