Kurt Blome

Kurt Blome (31 January 1894-10 October 1969) was Deputy Reich Health Leader from 20 April 1939 to 1945, succeeding Hans Deuschl.

Biography[]

Kurt Blome was born in Bielefeld, Westphalia, German Empire in 1894, and he trained as a virologist before becoming Plenipotentiary for Cancer Research in the Third Reich and Deputy Reich Health Leader from 1939 to 1945. Having been involved with the DNVP following World War I, he joined the NSDAP, and he was responsible for the production of biological warfare agents and for the execution of Hitler's "euthanasia" program during World War II. After the war, he was acquitted of war crimes, in spite of having used concentration camp inmates for chemical and biological warfare experiments. He went on to be recruited by the United States to work on MKUltra and chemical warfare projects, and he also joined the national conservative German Party. He died in 1969.
