Kunwar Singh (1777-26 April 1858) was an Indian maharaja and rebel leader during the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny.
Biography[]
Kunwar Singh was born in Jagdispur, Bihar in 1777, and he came from the Ujjainiya Rajput clan. In 1826, he became the taluqdar of Jagdispur following the death of his father, and the eighty-year-old Singh became one of the leaders of the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny. Singh waged a successful guerrilla campaign against the British for a year, and he was critically injured during a battle at Jagdispur in 1858. He succeeded in taking the city and hoisting his flag, but he died shortly after returning to his palace.
