Kuchuk Muhammad

Kuchuk Muhammad (28 June 1391-1459) was Khan of the Golden Horde from 1433 to 1459, succeeding Ulugh Muhammad and preceding Mahmud bin Kuchuk.

Biography[]

Kuchuk Muhammad was born in 1391, a son of Timur Khan and a maternal grandson of Edigu. He became ruler of Astrakhan in 1428 and seized power from Ulugh Muhammad in 1433, ruling over the lands east of the Volga (the Great Horde) while Ulugh Muhammad ruled the lands to the west until his defeat by Sayid Ahmad I. Kuchuk Muhammad also developed a rivalry with Sayid Ahmed, and the Russians and Lithuanians supported Sayid Ahmed against him. Kuchuk Muhammad died in 1459.
