Kuban is a region of southern Russia, located along the Kuban River between the Don Steppe, the Volga delta, and the Caucasus and bordering the Black Sea to the west. Krasnodar Krai is the largest component of the Kuban region, and the region was settled by the Russian cossacks in the 1790s as the Circassians were expelled.
