Krzysztof Grzymultowski

Krzysztof Grzymultowski (1620-1687) was the Polish Voivode of Poznan Voivodeship at the time of the Deluge.

Biography[]

Krzysztof Grzymultowski was born in Greater Poland in 1620, the son of the starost of Sroda Slaska. He was elected to the Sejm in 1649, and he served as an elector of King Jan II Casimir. He became Marshal of the Sejm in 1654, and he remained loyal to the King during the Swedish Deluge of the 1650s. However, he joined Lubomirski's rebellion in 1665 due to his disappointment with his lack of promotion, maintaining close contact with the Elector of Brandenburg. After Jan Casimir's abdication in 1668, he supported Louis, Grand Condé's candidacy for the Polish throne before electing Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki in 1669. His pro-French intrigues alongside Jan Sobieski resulted in his trial before the Sejm in 1670. He supported Sobieski's rise to power and became Voivode of Poznan in 1679 before coming to lead the pro-Habsburg party during the 1680s. He died in 1687.
