Flag of Korea 2

The Korean Patriotic Organization was a Korean nationalist organization, active from 1931 to c. 1936, that aimed to liberate Korea by assassinating prominent Japanese leaders. The KPO operated as a secret society under the leadership of Kim Koo and others, and its member Yun Bong-gil ambushed and assassinated the Japanese military leadership in Shanghai on 29 April 1932, while Lee Bong-chang tried, but failed, to kill Emperor Hirohito that same year. The KPO's operations diminished after its relocation to Zhenjiang in 1935 and to Nanjing in 1936, but the Korean Liberation Army would unite the KPO with several other resistance organizations dedicated to liberating Korea from Japan.
