Konstantin Schmidt von Knobelsdorf (13 December 1860-1 September 1936) was a general of the Imperial German Army during World War I.
Biography[]
Konstantin Schmidt von Knobelsdorf was born on 13 December 1860 in Frankfurt an der Oder, German Empire, and he joined the Imperial German Army at the age of eighteen. In 1912, he rose to the rank of Major-General, having served in the general staff for years. When World War I broke out, he became a Lieutenant-General and an army chief-of-staff, and he became the chief adviser to Crown Prince Wilhelm of Germany. Knobelsdorf was therefore one of the architects of the attacks that led to the Battle of Verdun in 1916, and he pushed for victory at all costs. Walther von Luttwitz replaced him as chief of staff, and Knobelsdorf died in Glucksburg, Nazi Germany in 1936.
