Koani is a province in eastern Bolivia, with Huertas serving as its capital. Koani is home to one of the biggest salt deserts on earth, the Salar de Uyuni, making the province largely inhospitable and sparsely populated. The province's economy has traditionally relied on salt and lithium, and, while Huertas is a mining town controlled by the powerful mining syndicate, families from the village of Sacani dug pits in the salt desert for a living. The Santa Blanca Cartel used the province as its main cocaine smuggling platform, flying drugs in and out of the province through Boston Reed's air fleet. In 2019, American special forces liberated the province from Santa Blanca's control.
