Knut Posse

Knut Posse (1440-25 March 1500) was a Swedish nobleman and general during the 15th century.

Biography[]

Knut Posse was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1440, and he was the commandant of Stockholm at the time of Sten Sture the Elder's rebellion against King Christian I of Denmark in 1471. At the Battle of Brunkeberg, he led the city's garrison in a surprise attack on the Danes, leading his men from the front. He was hit in the legs by Danish crossbow bolts and then struck in the head by a German mercenary axeman, and he was carried back to Stockholm, where some sources claim that he died of his wounds. However, he survived the battle, serving as Governor of Viipuri from 1495 to 1497 and defended it against a Russian onslaught. He died in Stockholm in 1500.
