Leon

León was a kingdom in Reconquista-era Spain that existed from 910 to 1230 in the northwest of the country, often including the Kingdom of Galicia. León was founded when the Kingdom of Asturias moved its capital from Oviedo to León in 910 AD, and it ruled over Galicia in addition to León and northern Portugal. León was in conflict with the Kingdom of Portugal, Kingdom of Castile, and the Moors, its nettlesome neighbors, with Portugal becoming an independent kingdom in 1139. However, Leon united with Castile on numerous occasions, and in 1230 León and Castile were permanently united as "Castile and Leon".
