The Kingdom of Israel was a kingdom in the northern Levant which existed from 930 to 720 BC, with Samaria serving as its capital. It was one of the two successor states of the United Kingdom of Israel, the other being the Kingdom of Judah. For the first sixty years, the two kingdoms were in a perpetual state of war, but, for the next eighty years, they allied against Aram Damascus and other outside threats. The two kingdoms would alternate between alliance and war until 720 BC, when the Neo-Assyrian Empire conquered Israel.
