The Kingdom of Holland, also called the United Netherlands, was a vassal state of the First French Empire, founded in 1806. Ruled by king Jef I of Holland, the kingdom was formed after the conquest of Amsterdam from the Batavian Republic. In 1810 the kingdom was dissolved after King Louis I of Holland served the Dutch expectation rather than his brother Napoleon's.
History[]
In 1805 the Batavian Republic betrayed France by declaring war on their Westphalian allies, and the French responded by fighting a war against them in defense of their ally. Westphalia was conquered by the Dutch, and the French responded by capturing Amsterdam and bringing King Jef I of Holland to the throne of the United Netherlands. Holland was initially unfriendly with France, but a trade agreement was arranged and France gave Holland all of its technology that it had to offer as a gift of well-being.
