Dewet

The Kingdom of Dyfed, also known as Dewet, was a Welsh kingdom that existed from 410 to 920. The kingdom was named for the Demetae tribe, whose lands the kingdom occupied in the aftermath of the fall of the Roman Empire. By 481, the land of the Demetae had Irish rulers, the dynasty of Aircol Lawhir. Aircol was a Gael more Briton than many Britons, bearing the Roman title of Protector. Though nominally a vassal of Munster in Ireland, he chose to give his allegiance to the young King Arthur, king of the Dumnonians and High-King of Britain. Dyfed had strong allies, but it still had to deal with the threat of Gaelic pirates and their rivals in Gwynedd and Gwent. Dyfed became a part of the greater kingdom of Deheubarth in 920.
