The Kharijites were a branch of Islam that was marginalized and repressed early in the 7th century. They believed that any nonrepentant sinner was a Kafir, also rejecting the notion of infallibility of the caliph.
History[]
Kharijites are sometimes said to have been the first example of Islamic extremism, as they believed that all nonrepentant sinners were kafirs, showing their extreme views on non-fundamental Islamists. In addition, they believed that even the caliph was not immune from corruption, and for this reason the caliphs tried to exterminate the Kharijites. The Khawarij were marginalized and were regarded as heretics, and the faith was eradicated.
