Oghul (1244-) was the Khatun of the Ilkhanate from 1260 to 1265 with Hulegu Khan, preceding Khatun Al-Alta of the Ilkhanate.
Biography[]
Oghul was born to a lowborn family of Tengri Mongols, but in 1260 Hulegu Khan chose her as his bride, making her the empress of the Ilkhanate. She disliked Hulegu at first, but she gained a slight liking for him later. On 1 September 1262, she became pregnant with a daughter. On 3 October, however, Emir Elp-Ergun of Hazaraspid Satrapy, the Spymaster of the Ilkhanate, discovered Oghul's plot to assassinate High Chief Hyaxemet of Mosul, one of Hulegu's sons. Hulegu asked her to give up her plot, and once she did, he made her Designated Regent to heal relations. She was regent briefly during her husband's pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
On 22 April 1265, Hulegu Khan died in his sleep at the age of 48 from natural causes. Oghul had a slight dislike of her stepson Teguder Khan, who succeeded Hulegu, so he ordered Oghul to take the vows, joining a monastic order and becoming a nun.
