Khan Wazir

Khan Wazir (1960-1992) was a leader of the Afghan Mujahideen.

Biography[]

Khan Wazir was born in Pakistan in the South Waziristan town of Dande Darpa Khel in 1960. In 1976 he joined the Mujahideen when they were recruiting in Pakistan, and moved to Afghanistan to fight in the Soviet-Afghan War against the Soviet Union

In 1986, Wazir fought in the Battle of Khost against the Soviet Union, picking off advancing Soviet troops with an AK-47 from the side of a cliff. After the battle he became the commander of his own troop, and fought with them even after the Soviets withdrew. He was gunned down in a fight with the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan (DRA) army in 1992.
