Khan Oge of Mongolia (802-847) was the last legitimate khan of the Uyghur Khaganate, reigning from 840 to 847. He succeeded the usurper Khan Kurebir of Mongolia, and he was assassinated in 847 by the Yenisei Kirghiz, led by Khan Bonyak of Mongolia.
Biography[]
Khan Oge of Mongolia was born in 802 to the Manichaean Ediz Uyghurs. He was the son of Khan Paoi of Mongolia, and after his brother Khan Hu of Mongolia was forced to commit suicide in 839, the usurper Khan Kurebir of Mongolia dethroned his family. Oge returned as Khan when Kurebir was beheaded by the Yenisei Kirghiz invaders, who sent 80,000 troops to depose Kurebir at the invitation of a noble. However, the Kirghiz continued to destroy Uyghur cities far and wide across the empire, burning them to the ground. In 841 Oge made enemies with the Tang dynasty, invading Inner Mongolia, and he fought the Chinese in the Ordos Desert and Shaanxi. Oge was assassinated in 847, having spent his six-year reign fighting the Kirghiz, Kurebir's brother Ormizt Hosa, and the Tang. Khan Bonyak of Mongolia was the first Kirghiz ruler of Mongolia.
