
Khaled Mosharraf (1 November 1937-7 November 1975) was a Major-General of Bangladesh who led a coup against Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad and the military officers and politicians who killed Mujibur Rahman. He was himself murdered on 7 November 1975 by the rogue soldiers.
Biography[]
Khaled Mosharraf was born on 1 November 1937 in Jamalpur, Bengal Presidency, British India. Mosharraf served in the Pakistani Army during the Second Indo-Pakistani War in 1965 and was trained in West Germany and the United Kingdom before becoming commander of the 4th Bengal Regiment during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Mosharraf helped the Mukti Bahini guerrillas in fighting against Pakistan, and in 1973 he was made Chief of the General Staff of the Bangladeshi Army. In 1975, after President Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad gave amnesty to the killers of Mujibur Rahman, Mosharraf and Colonel Shafaat Jamil mobilized pro-Rahman forces and overthrew Ahmad, imprisoning him for his crimes. However, on 7 November 1975 Mosharraf was assassinated by the same soldiers that he was fighting against, killed with two fellow officers.
