
Kevin Pyle (18 December 1918 - 17 August 1942) was a US Marine Corps private during World War II.
Biography[]
Kevin Pyle was born in Troy, New York on 18 December 1918, and he enlisted in the US Marine Corps during World War II. Pyle served in the Marine Raiders under Sergeant Tom Sullivan, and he was captured by the Imperial Japanese Navy from the 51st Guard Force of the 6th Yokosuka Special Naval Landing Force on 10 August 1942 while performing a reconnaissance mission on the island alongside Charlie Miller and a few other Marines. Japanese officer Shihei Okura tortured Pyle by shoving a lit cigarette into his eye, and he proceeded to have his aide Manobu Wakatsuki cut his throat with a knife.
