Keril the Heroic Poet

Keril the Heroic Poet (died 431 BC) was a Greek mercenary during the Peloponnesian War.

Biography[]

Keril was a well-known Greek mercenary who was infamous for writing poems about his adventures himself, ignoring the tradition that only dead heroes had poems written about them. Overall, his works were enjoyed by others, even if many believed that he had lied about much of what the hero had accomplished. In 431 BC, he was hired to hunt down and kill the rival mercenary Kassandra in Athens, but she killed him in the Agora of Athens after a short battle.
