Emira Kenwa of the Iqritishi Emirate

Kenwa the Dove (1 January 849-) was an Emira of the Emirate of Crete as a wife of Salim Iqritishi.

Biography[]

Kenwa was born in North Africa on 1 January 849 AD, and, in 867 AD, she moved to Chandax, Crete to marry Emir Salim Iqritishi. She became one of his secondary wives, and, on 27 April 868, she gave birth to their first son, al-Rashid ibn Salim, followed by al-Din ibn Salim on 27 October 869. On 22 January 870, her husband forced her to end her plot to kill her stepson Musa ibn Salim, Salim's main heir. On 15 February, she agreed to convert from Ibadi to Sunni Islam. On 27 November 872, she gave birth to her third child, Daniyah bint Salim. On 27 June 874, she gave birth to twins, Saad and Husayn ibn Salim. On 10 May 879, she asked her husband to bestow a nickname upon her, so he called her "the Dove" for her elegance. By 883, however, she became an impulsive eater and soon became fat, slothful, and cruel, making her unappealing to her husband. On 23 June 883, he divorced Kenwa, who moved in with her son al-Din on Corcyra. She still remained happy with her ex-husband, who gave her money to ensure that she was taken care of. She later remarried to Sheikh Lubb of Naxos and became his Spymaster.
