Kentucky is one of the fifty states of the United States, having its capital at Frankfort. Kentucky is nicknamed "the Bluegrass State", and it is known for its horse racing, tobacco, bluegrass music, college basketball, fried chicken, and automobile manufacturing. Kentucky was settled during the American Revolutionary War, and it was admitted to the union on 1 June 1792 as the 15th state. In 2015, the state had a population of 4,425,092, with 87.8% being whites, 7.8% African-Americans, 1.1% Asians, .2% Native Americans, .1% Pacific Islanders, 1.3% other, and 1.7% multiracial; 48.9% of the whites are English, 11.1% Germans, and 8.8% Irish.
