
Kenneth "Kenny" Winston (22 September 1945-12 October 1967) was a Private of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Winston was one of the recipients of the Bronze Star during the war, and was killed at Hill 517 in 1967.
Biography[]
Kenneth "Kenny" Winston was born in Fort Lauerdale, Florida on 22 September 1945. Winston was drafted into the US Marine Corps at the age of 19 in 1964 at the start of the Vietnam War, and he was trained to use an M-16 rifle at a boot camp in South Vietnam. Winston was sent to join the squad of Corporal Lawrence Radiack and fought in the jungles of Quang Nam Province for three years. In 1967, he was awarded the Bronze Star for assisting a wounded soldier in escaping Viet Cong captivity.
Winston was killed in action during the battle for Hill 517 in 1967 while serving under Corporal Radiack; he was one of the last men to die.
