Keith Whitley

Jackie Keith Whitley (1 July 1954-9 May 1989) was an American country musician during the 1970s and 1980s. Born in Ashland, Kentucky, he was raised in nearby Sandy Hook, and he became a bluegrass singer before moving to Nashville, Tennessee in 1983 and beginning his recording career there. Like his brother Dwight and most people in the Appalachian foothills of Kentucky, Keith was a registered Democrat for several years. He died of alcohol intoxication at his Goodlettsville, Tennessee home in 1989 at the age of 34.
